What is the IMAT

The official entrance exam for English-taught medical degrees at public universities in Italy.

The International Medical Admissions Test (IMAT) is the official entrance exam for English-taught medical degrees at public universities in Italy, providing access to Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics, and Veterinary Medicine. It is administered by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR) and the score is the main academic selection criterion, alongside eligibility and administrative requirements.

They keep losing the same marks anyway.

The IMAT is scored out of 90. Top universities — Milan, Rome, Bologna, Pavia — need around 70–73. Here is where the marks go missing.

The gap

The same kind of mistake, repeated across the paper — each a mark that was within reach, then handed back.

02The cost

Each wrong answer costs the mark plus a penalty — so 10 slips drain far more than 10 marks.

72 clears them.

The 19 marks are not a knowledge problem. Your child already knows the subject — they keep losing the same marks for the same reason. That is the gap medtrainit is built to close.

FAQ

Still unsure? Email hello@medtrainit.com.

What is medtrainit IMAT?

medtrainit is an IMAT learning platform crafted by medical doctors from Italy, covering the complete IMAT syllabus across Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and Logical Reasoning.

Who built medtrainit IMAT — doctors or just medical students?

Medtrainit’s content is developed and reviewed by subject experts, including practising doctors, surgeons, clinical scientists, and educators across the UK and Europe. Every wrong-answer explanation is authored or reviewed by a domain expert before being presented to students.

Who will conduct the live IMAT teaching?

The live classes will be conducted by the same subject experts, including practising doctors, surgeons, and clinical scientists from Italy who have personally taken the IMAT, along with PhD physicists for physics preparation.

Is the content in medtrainit IMAT created using AI?

No. The content is not AI-generated. It is developed by medical doctors who have taken the IMAT and by experienced educators from the UK. The physics content is additionally reviewed by a PhD physicist.

How is this different from a question bank?

A question bank shows the right answer and gives more practice questions. medtrainit explains why your child picked the wrong one — then gives them the same idea in many different questions and scenarios. It is practice that keeps revisiting a concept until the learner is answering it confidently, not just learning one question pattern.

Should students use past IMAT papers as part of their preparation?

Not necessarily. The IMAT has evolved significantly. From 2011–2019, it emphasised logical reasoning, problem-solving, and general knowledge. From 2020–2022, science subjects gained greater emphasis, and from 2023 onward, the exam became increasingly science-focused. Since 2024, science has accounted for the majority of the paper, with Biology alone representing approximately 38% of the 60 questions.

Relying on older papers may therefore mislead students about the current exam pattern and priorities.

At edtrainit, we focus on the current IMAT syllabus, the skills needed to tackle unfamiliar questions, and original, syllabus-aligned practice. Rather than repackaging publicly available past IMAT papers, which may also raise copyright concerns, we create original questions that provide genuine value to students’ preparation, from an Italian doctor’s point of view.

Do AI-generated mock tests improve knowledge?

No. Poorly reviewed AI-generated mock tests can create confusion in subject understanding and may increase the risk of negative marking in the IMAT exam. Many platforms offer a large number of AI-generated mock tests without adequate expert review, which can lead to incorrect concepts and answers.

medtrainit’s mock exams are prepared by subject-matter experts and reviewed by another expert to ensure the accuracy of every question and answer. This quality-check process helps prevent misconceptions and supports accurate subject understanding and effective IMAT preparation.
